As a current graduate undertaking the Findex Graduate Program, Aaron Watson answers some questions for new graduates considering the 2022 Graduate Program.

Why do you enjoy working for Findex?

I really enjoy that no week is completely the same working at Findex. We’re provided with continuous training and, with access to multiple specialists within the firm, I can keep up-to-date with the latest information within the industry.

What does the program offer you?

One of the best perks the Findex Graduate Program has to offer is the exposure graduates get with their local leadership team. As a Business Advisory graduate, I’m able to meet with the Partners on a regular basis to go over topics that are relevant for my career development.

Within Business Advisory, I specialise in agribusiness, which means I have access to a wealth of knowledge not only with agribusiness specialists in other Findex offices, but industry specialists in rural real estate, employment law and finance.

What are the best cultural aspects of the job

Being in a larger office gives us the ability to get involved in numerous social activities. Some of the social sports that Findex is a part of include golf, basketball, touch rugby, netball and badminton. With multiple sports to get involved with, we can mix and mingle with other people in the firm who are not necessarily in the same team.

On occasions, some of the service lines get together and hold their own team functions like going out for a meal or a fun activity.

How has the program assisted in your transition from university to work life?

I found the transition from university to work life relatively smooth. From day one of the graduate program, you are allocated a team member who helps you transition into the day to day jobs, which really helped me find my feet.

Is there a support network that you feel comfortable to engage with?

The support network at Findex is really solid. There are a lot of people in the business who have been through the graduate program themselves and everyone is willing to share the skills and knowledge they have learned over their time with the firm. Of particular comfort are the Team Managers and Partners, who always have an open door and are more than happy to assist with any questions you may have.

How have you developed in your career and personal life?

Being guided by local leaders with extensive experience has enabled me to develop personally and professionally at Findex. Not only do I get to benefit from the business relationships our local leaders have formed, their willingness to involve graduates in client meetings allows us to gain exposure and learn new skills while interacting with other like-minded people in the community. I’ve also enjoyed the access to networking events, which has had a positive influence on my career development.

How have you progressed in your role?

Since starting the graduate program, I have been able to gradually transition from working on low level jobs to more complex tasks. Within the first six months I was able to work on tasks such as completing annual accounts, performing benchmark analysis and working on projects in the agribusiness space.

We're searching for a new generation of talent to help drive growth and achieve great outcomes. Applications for the Findex 2022 graduate intake are open from 16 February to 14 March 2021. Find out more here.
